About South Africa - Kruger

Over 1,000 audio narrations and 15 hours of audio give you a fascinating tour of South Africa’s Kruger region, as you drive. As you approach Kruger’s most interesting historical sites and most beautiful locations, your Garmin will automatically start to tell you all about its background, the people involved and the stories associated with it. Each audio-narration has been carefully produced and researched by South Africans with a passion for their country and a profound understanding of its history and landmarks. The commentaries are on average 60 seconds long and you can pause, stop or replay them at any time.

Kruger Central
Although the Central Region of the Kruger National Park makes up only 30 per cent of the Park’s surface area, it supports nearly half of the Park’s lion and sizeable numbers of leopard, hyaena and cheetah. The sweet grasses that grow on fertile soils, and an abundance of excellent browsing trees, sustain the largest impala, buffalo, giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck and sable populations in the Park. Five seasonal rivers meander across the Central Region and, as wildlife is abundant, the concentration of predators, especially lions, in the Central Region ensures that it remains a popular tourist destination. As a result there are many camps in the region.

Kruger North
A low-lying, sun-baked plain, the Northern Region of the Kruger National Park extends north of the Olifants River. This semi-arid region is blanketed in shrub mopane with the Olifants, Letaba, Shingwedzi, Tsendze and Mphongolo rivers carving lush corridors of botanical diversity. The Northern Region is home to half of Kruger’s elephants, with breeding herds favouring the country bordering the Olifants River. In this sun burnt region, wildlife is drawn to the rivers, and any exploration of these picturesque river roads can produce some of the best game-viewing in the Park. Many species of birds have a preference for a specific habitat, and a number of unusual birds can be found in the Northern Region.

Kruger South
The Kruger National Park’s historic Southern Region is bordered by the Crocodile River in the south and the Sabie River in the north. In the east, along the border with Mozambique, the Lebombo Mountains form a rugged ridge. The region is noted for an abundance of trees and some species occur only on the deep sandy soils found here and in the Far North. Many seasonal rivers flow across this region and their sandy beds often hold pools of water that attract a wide variety of game. Although this woodland does not sustain the concentrations of game found in Central Kruger, reasonable populations of impala, kudu, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, white rhino and elephant are present. As wildebeest and zebra - preferred prey species of lion - are found in low numbers in the Southern Region, lion are less common than they are in the Central Region. This relative scarcity of lion means that cheetah and wild dog occur in reasonable numbers. Another common predator found in bushwillow woodland is the leopard, although these superbly camouflaged cats are not often seen. The majority of the white rhino found in Kruger occur in the Southern Region.

What Customers are saying about RoadTour...

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that I didn’t know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
