About French Routes - The Côte d'Azur

The Côte d'Azur and Provence
This product contains 2 routes in the Côte d'Azur region of France. The routes contain dozens of historical locations, each with engaging audio commentaries which play as you drive and tell you the stories and secrets of the region. The routes are:

ROUTE 1: DISCOVERING-PROVENCE , 108 Miles
Tour Route:
This Route starts in Avignon where the Popes came to live in the middle ages. As you approach each location, a fascinating audio commentary starts automatically on your GPS system.
During that time the ramparts were built and are now the most intact in France, this is fortunate because the ramparts protect the town still from the floods of the Rhône. There are 3 stops in Avignon: Place St Didier, Place Crillon and Pont St Bénézet (the real pont d’avignon from the song) which dates from the 12th Century and stretched a full kilometre with 22 arches. The bridge is named after a young shepherd who was answering a divine call to build a bridge. He was challenged by a bishop to carry a huge rock at which point a host of angels came to his rescue. Did you know that the famous song’s real words are actually ‘Sous le Pont’, meaning Underneath the bridge where we are meant to dance. Look for the island on the river and listen to the audio to find out more.
Next on the route is Tarascon and the House of Tartarin – the fictional creation of Daudet- who is a local hero of Tarascon. Daudet was a great fan of Provence and wrote extensively of the region. Less than 10 miles away is Arles where we hear all about the Place Du Forum which was the Heart of Roman Arles. Soon after is Martigues, where you’ll hear about the three districts of the Les Martigues. Take the time to wander along the quays, particularly in the "quartier des pêcheurs" around the canal Saint-Sébastien. The old port of Marseille beckons next which was totally demolished in the second world war by the retreating German troops- listen as the tour tells you all about the famous boats and buildings of the area such as the Ferry Boat which has been operating for one hundred years. Roquevaire near Aubagne is next on our audio-route where delightful little bridges cross the river. The village has preserved its Provencal identity and is in the heart of the countryside dear to the famous Marcel Pagnol. Lastly hear the stories about Saint Zacharie, a pleasant village sprinkled with 15 fountains and an 11th Century church, where our tour ends.

ROUTE 2: FRENCH-RIVIERA, 62 Miles
Explore the colourful and scented region, the famous cities such as Cannes, Nice and Monte-Carlo, which have inspired so many artists. Hear the secrets and stories of the region as you drive.
Start: Sain-Raphaël
End: Menton

What Customers are saying about RoadTour...

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that I didn’t know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey
