About French Routes - Around Paris, The Somme to the Loire Valley
Around Paris: The Somme to the Loire Valley
This product contains 6 routes Around Paris, the Centre and Picardie. The routes contain dozens of historical locations, each with engaging audio commentaries which play as you drive and tell you the stories and secrets of the region. The routes are:
ROUTE 1: PICARDIE- THE SOMME TOUR OR REMEMBRANCE, 89 Miles
The Tour Route
The Tour of Remembrance takes you on a 150 mile, ten-stop journey in the northern French region of Picardie, to the west of Amiens. As you approach each location, a fascinating audio commentary starts automatically on your GPS system.
The tour begins in Villiers Bretonneux at the National Australian Memorial, south of Froissy where trains brought supplies and ammunition to the front line, then up to the formerly occupied town of Péronne which was liberated by the Australians and on to Rancourt which has the largest French burial ground in the Somme. Next, the tour heads west to Longueval where the South African dead outnumbered the wounded by a catastrophic 4 to 1, and La Boisselle where you can hear about the Lochnagar Crater which was created by British mines on the first day of the Somme Offensive.
Thiepval is the next stop where you will hear about and see the largest Franco-British memorial in the Somme, a Memorial to the Missing of the Somme and the Tower of Ulster which commemorates the 5,500 Northern Irish soldiers who lost their lives on 1 July 1916.
The tour then takes you to the town of Albert where it will tell you about the replica of the famous Golden Virgin sitting on top of the Basilica, to Beaumont Hamel where you can visit preserved trenches and the Danger Tree which marks the spot where casualties were at their highest on Day One of the Battle of the Somme. The final destination is Doullens, to the northwest. It was here, in the town hall that papers were signed giving General Foch overall command of the allied forces. Almost eight months later, the war was finally over.

What Customers are saying about RoadTour...
“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value
