About French Routes - West Brittany

Western Brittany
This product contains 3 routes in the West Brittany region of France each with engaging audio commentaries which play as you drive and tell you the stories and secrets of the region. The Routes include:

ROUTE 1: LANDERNEAU-DAOULAS, 31 Miles
The Tour Route:
This route explores the villages and churches around Landerneau-Daoulas in Southern Brittany. As you approach each location, a fascinating audio commentary starts automatically on your GPS system.
It starts in Ploudiry where you can hear about the beautiful church: looking at the façade you can see a balcony which is where the sermon would be given if the church was too full. Next is the ossuary of La Roche Maurice, also known as the Chapel of St Anne which is built in the Renaissance Style. Above the triangular pediment can be read the sobering words: “Remember my judgement shall also be your own: as it is my turn today, it shall be yours tomorrow”.
You’ll next be taken to Trémaouzan which you will hear long ago belonged to the Knights Templar or ‘red monks’ and which possesses 2 healing fountains which attracted many pilgrims. During a pilgrimage it is said, a young blind woman came to Trémaouzan to be healed and she was cured and the first thing she saw was the steeple of the Trémaouzan. As she was from a rich family, they built a chapel on the spot, the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist.
The Route moves on to the Ossuary of Pencran which dates from 1594 which has served as a school, lodging and even tobaconnist although today it is a family burial vault. The Pencran Parish Church mixes gothic and renaissance influences: the steeple houses one of the oldest bells in the region.
Tréfléfénez soons beckons and you’ll hear about how the Crusaders are connected with the area. The name Tréfléfénez means ‘village of joy’ and it is thought that the first chapel was built by someone returning from the Crusades: the date above the door of 1289 reinforces this view although the church has been remodelled several times since it was first built.
The oldest parish close in Brittany is next on the Route at La Martyre. Its construction stretched from the 11th to 17th centuy. The village owes its name to an event in 874 which was the revengeful murder of King Saloman of Brittany who was taking refuge in the church. During the Renaissance, this location would host a huge fair covering 27 hectares selling cloth, spice and food from home and abroad brought in from the port.

What Customers are saying about RoadTour...

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that I didn’t know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
