Lexington & Concord 15 miles
Concord and Lexington are two of the most famous towns in the United States, due to the skirmishes between locals and British soldiers in 1775 that triggered the American Revolution. Concord has an additional claim to fame: it was home to some of the great writers of 19th-century America. Today, Lexington feels like a residential suburb of Boston, while Concord has retained more of its historical flavor. The main themes of this route are liberty and literature, but at the end, the focus is strictly contemporary.
The North Shore 65 miles
One famous seaport after another follows the curve of the coast north of Boston, from the towns of Gloucester and Marblehead, to Salem and Newburyport. There are hundreds of handsome old houses, and dozens of high quality museums and art galleries.
Cape Cod 106 miles
This 62-mile (100km) long peninsula is one of the `country’s eminent vacation playgrounds. Route 6A, the Old King’s Highway, passes through 300-year-old communities where every other house seems to be a craft shop, antiques store or bed-and-breakfast.
The Berkshire Hills 133 miles
The Berkshires were once the exclusive playground of the rich. Now these forested slopes are a vacation destination for everyone, particularly music lovers who are drawn to the numerous summer festivals.
The Litchfield Hills 71 miles
The rolling Litchfield Hills and the Housatonic River give a special character to the scattered villages that dot the peaceful northwest corner of Connecticut, among the thick woods.
The Connecticut Shore 92 miles
New Haven is a mixture of industry and academia. Some areas still recall the might of the Industrial Revolution that had its roots here; other areas are a delight, thanks to the ivied walls and grassy quadrangles of Yale University (see pages 66–70). East of New Haven, the Connecticut shore is dotted with some surprisingly sleepy villages, sheltered from traffic by I-95, the interstate highway that speeds traffic on its way and diverts it from the coast.
What Customers are saying about RoadTour...
“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value
to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”
John, UK
“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio
guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey
“Finding atmospheric pubs with good food is always a challenge when you don't know the area and
can be stressful when you're hungry and tired!!”
David, Essex
“Road Tour has found us some great pubs which have made our journeys all the more enjoyable. Every place
it's suggested has been a winner.”
Nikki, Cambridgeshire'
“The heritage commentary is really informative and entertaining – it’s great to discover
the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading
“This is the perfect thing for history buffs - RoadTour really brings boring car journeys to life.”
Guy,
London
“It doesn't intrude on the journey it complements it with just enough information if you
are not stopping at the attraction.”
Robin, Scotland
