Forty-Nine-Mile Drive 41 miles
The best that San Francisco has to offer is covered by this well-marked drive through the city, passing virtually every major site worth seeing. It is best to plan the drive to avoid the congested downtown area during rush hours, and to spend more of your time at the sites farthest away from town. Look for the “49-Mile Drive” blue-and white seagull signs. If you only have one day to see San Francisco, take this drive, which passes virtually every major site in the city. The route is well marked and easy to follow, but though the journey can easily be completed in one day, not much time will be available for visiting sites. There is so much to see along the way that this drive should be considered a sampler, to search out the more interesting places for a return visit at your leisure.

Wine Country 125 miles
Some of the world’s greatest wines are produced in two valleys that are just a one hour drive north of San Francisco. This tour visits the most interesting sites in the Napa and Sonoma wine areas. The elements that help create great wine – the right soil, warm days and cool nights – also create very pleasant countryside. No visit to Northern California would be complete without experiencing the world-famous vineyards of Napa Valley and the Wine Country. The drive from the metropolitan area to the closest vineyards takes little more than an hour, but it is well worth continuing north to Calistoga, and over to the vineyards of Sonoma for a taste of the real thing. Although a day trip will give you a pretty good feel for the area, it really deserves more time, and has more than enough attractions to keep even the most jaded visitor happily occupied. The route is scattered with bed-and-breakfast inns and fine restaurants – giving no excuse for returning to the city too quickly.

San Francisco Peninsula & Monterey Bay 155 miles
From San Francisco south to the lively college town of Santa Cruz, and on around the Monterey Bay to the city of Monterey, this Pacific coast tour passes strawberry and flower fields, lush apple orchards and a spectacular, deserted shore, revealing California’s agricultural riches and undeveloped beauty. The excursion to Monterey begins with a scenic introduction to Northern California’s rugged coastline. Highway One hugs the coast as it passes through Half Moon Bay on its way to Santa Cruz, with mixed agricultural and natural landscapes along the way. From Santa Cruz, the road makes its way through more agricultural land before eventually arriving at Monterey Bay. San Francisco Peninsula has become one of the richest areas in America, mainly due to the phenomenal growth of the hi-tech industry. The return journey up the east side of the peninsula is a dramatic contrast to the rugged Pacific coast. This is the home of Hewlett Packard, Apple Computers, Stanford University and a whole host of other household names in the computer industry.

What Customers are saying about RoadTour...

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that I didn’t know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”
John, UK

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey

“Finding atmospheric pubs with good food is always a challenge when you don't know the area and can be stressful when you're hungry and tired!!”
David, Essex

“The heritage commentary is really informative and entertaining – it’s great to discover the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading

Guy, London

“It doesn't intrude on the journey it complements it with just enough information if you are not stopping at the attraction.”
