Windows Mobile Installation Guide

ROADTOUR already installed? skip to user guide

NOTE: You must have an SD card with 450Mb of free space to fit all of the RoadTour content. You also must have Microsoft Activesync (Windows XP) - or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista)- it normally comes with the PDA/mobile so you probably have it. It is available for free from www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync

1. DOWNLOAD

Download the file from RoadTour by clicking on the link in your email, this can take up to an hour on a broadband connection. You don’t need to watch it though and can return at any time to the process. Once downloaded- plug in your Microsoft device with an SD card.

Find the Roadtourmobile.exe file you just downloaded. Double click the file and follow the on screen instructions to extract the contents to your desktop, using the Browse button when required to specify your desktop as the destination folder. When this process is complete you will have two new files on your dekstop; RoadTour.exe and RoadTourLocationsSetup.exe. Now go to step 4.

2. CD (Steps 1-5 takes 5 minutes; Step 6-7 takes 10 minutes)

Step 1:

Insert the RoadTour CD into the PC. Ensure that your Windows Mobile device is connected to the PC and working as normal (see note below). It must have an SD card with 450mb of free space.

Step 2:

On the PC open WINDOWS EXPLORER or COMPUTER and navigate to and open the CD drive, locate Roadtourmobile.exe. Double click the file and follow the on screen instructions to extract the contents to your desktop, using the Browse button when required to specify your desktop as the destination folder. When this process is complete you will have two new files on your dekstop; RoadTour.exe and RoadTourLocationsSetup.exe.

Step 3:

Locate RoadTour.exe on your desktop, double click this file and follow the on screen instructions to begin the installation onto your mobile device. When complete, pickup your mobile device and continue to follow the steps on its screen to complete the installation.

Step 4:

On your mobile device, Select ‘yes’ when asked whether you really want to install. We recommend you select the Storage Card location when prompted.

Step 5:

You will be informed the install was successful, now you have a working version of RoadTour on your phone with 50 trial locations. The final step is to use the RoadTourLocationsSetup.exe that you extracted to your desktop earlier to get the site locations onto your mobile. This has to be done as a separate process due to their size.

Step 6:

There are two ways to complete this process:

A) The first and fastest way requires you to have a micro SD adapter, and a SD card reader in your PC. Remove the micro SD card from your mobile phone and insert it into the micro SD adapter, then insert the adapter into the SD card reader in your PC. Take note which drive letter your PC assigns to this SD card, usually called ‘Removable Device’ by your computer. (If in doubt as to which drive letter the SD card is assigned, remove the SD adapter and then reinsert it while watching MY COMPUTER to see which drive disappears and reappears).

Double click on the file called RoadTourLocationsSetup.exe. Accept the Terms & Conditions and click next again. Now use the Browse button to select the SD card which you just inserted in the PCs card reader as the destination drive and click Install. This process will take 10+ minutes. When complete replace your micro SD card back into your mobile device. You are ready to start using RoadTour - see User Guide.

Alternative Step 6 (if you have no card reader)

The second method uses Copy and Paste from your PC to your mobile device’s SD card.

PART I: With your mobile plugged into PC, double click on the file called RoadTourLocationsSetup.exe. Accept the installation and the Terms; then choose DESKTOP as location for install on your PC (but make a careful note where if you choose alternate place). Click INSTALL. This takes a few minutes.

PART II: Find the newly created MY DOCUMENTS folder on your desktop. Right mouse click on it and select COPY. Now, find your mobile device in MY COMPUTER (or via Activesync select EXPLORE). Navigate to the SD card (Storage card) which is inside. Double click on the Storage card- then right mouse click in the empty space near where the folders would normally appear. There should be a PASTE option- if there is not, then you need to move the cursor until a right click brings up the PASTE option. Select PASTE. Now wait for 20+ minutes while your files are successfully deposited. When this is finished, you’re ready to go - see User Guide.
