Garmin Installation Guide

NOTE: Because the files can be large- we recommend you install onto the SD card.

Download (Pubs = 5 minutes, Heritage =30 minutes)

Download the file from RoadTour following instructions in your email. This can take up to 30 minutes on a broadband connection during which you can leave it downloading. Once downloaded, plug in your Garmin with SD card via the USB cable, and go to Step 2.

CD (10 minutes)

Step 1: INSERT CD

Insert RoadTour CD into the PC and ensure your Garmin device is attached to the PC via the USB cable, with the SD card inserted into it. The SD card should have at least 400mb of free space available on it.

Step 2: SELECT FILE

Now, locate the RoadTour file (on CD or just downloaded) and double click on it using MY COMPUTER to find it, as normal.

Step 3: INSTALL & TRANSFER

Follow the instructions on the install program. The first step requires you to browse to the COMPUTER and find the SD card in your Garmin device (TIP! It is usually the ‘removable disk’ just below the Garmin). Then select UNZIP which moves everything to your Garmin’s SD card. When this 10-15 minute process is finished, then you need to select CLOSE.

Turn your Garmin OFF- then turn it ON. You’re ready to go - see User Guide.

FIRST TIME

Some devices may recognise “New data found on card” and ask if you would like to install the new data onto the Garmin’s internal disk. This option is up to you however it is not necessary to do this as the software will run perfectly from the external SD card. You may check the box “Do not ask me again”. Different Garmin models look slightly different to each other

KEY SETTING

Auto-play will launch a Heritage voice description automatically on approach (4-10 miles). To turn Auto-launch ON or OFF- select TOOLS (spanner), then PROXIMITY POINTS, then TOURGUIDES. Then select your chosen option.

  • Select WHERE TO,  EXTRAS, CUSTOM POIS, ROADTOUR
  • You can PLAN AHEAD by first choosing NEAR and then choosing the town which you’ll visit

NOTE 1: For some older models RoadTour also appears under the TRAVEL KIT - TRAVEL GUIDE
NOTE 2: On some models the EXTRAS, is called MY LOCATIONS (with a heart icon).

  • SPELL - search for heritage locations or pubs by name.

  • Click on the PLAY button to listen to the 90 second audio
  • GO takes you to the location.
  • Some Garmin’s have a MORE option which shows some text including opening times and prices.

  • Clicking on IMAGE takes you to a full sized picture

  • Some Garmin’s have a MORE option which shows some text including opening times and prices.
  • MORE takes you the a fulsome description and review in the case of Pubs & Inns 

  • TOOLS (spanner), then PROXIMITY POINTS takes you the options page.
  • Click on AUTO-PLAY to choose your preferred option
