1) Will ROADTOUR work anywhere?
Yes - ROADTOUR will work anywhere. To get a live GPS fix, you generally need to be outdoors, in a car or by a window - otherwise ROADTOUR will assume you are at the last visited location.
2) Won’t ROADTOUR be off-putting when I'm driving?
You can turn ROADTOUR off or simply set the configuration to keep quiet, so it’s up to you how you use it. When driving, it makes sense to use the automatic audio option which triggers when you approach the location. We find that ROADTOUR works best when dived into from time to time - maybe for part of a journey, at a pit-stop or at the destination to explore the surrounding area.
3) What types of heritage locations are on the system?
Castles, Gardens, Historic homes, places of worship, Palaces, Ancient Roman sites or just places with some special historical interest.
4) Is ROADTOUR one-off cost?
You can buy the product and use it forever without ever paying another penny. There are no charges on your mobile bill either. Of course, you might want to buy a more recent version with up-to-date opening hours and reviews etc every year or two - but you don’t have to.
5) Which devices does ROADTOUR work on?
Today it works on most Garmin Satnavs (nüvis® with MP3 playback capability, zūmo™, and the StreetPilot® c550, 2730, 2820, 7200 and 7500) and with all mobiles based on Microsoft Mobile (it’s possible to use ROADTOUR without a GPS in your mobile but you lose a lot of the fun and functionality). We’re planning to launch ROADTOUR on other big brand Satnavs and mobiles as soon as possible. Let us know if you’re interested in having ROADTOUR on your system.
6) What media is ROADTOUR available on?
You can download ROADTOUR or buy it on CD or SD card - the installation is slightly easier if you buy ROADTOUR on an SD card but there are pros and cons to each approach. To find out which version of ROADTOUR is best for you, see the summary table below:
| Media | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Download |

7) Can I install RoadTour onto the internal memory of my Garmin or Microsoft Mobile?
The answer is ...maybe! It depends on your model. For most mobiles it is not possible. For most Garmin’s you could install the Pubs Guide but not the Heritage. See the chart below to see at a quick glance the space needed:
| Garmin | Windows Mobile Phone | |
|---|---|---|
| Pubs | Needs 50Mb -will usually fit on a Garmin which often have 150Mb free space | Needs 300Mb- not possible to install this much on internal memory of models we know of |
| Heritage | Needs 350Mb -not possible to install this much on internal memory of models we know of | Needs 300Mb (as above) |
| Full Trip | Needs 400Mb -not possible to install this much on internal memory of models we know of | Needs 300Mb (as above) |
| Don’t forget you can always use your SD card! | Don’t forget you can always use your SD card! |
8) How do I know the chosen locations are the best ones?
ROADTOUR works in partnership with the Great British Heritage Pass which provides access to the top 600 heritage locations in the UK, many of which are National Trust and English Heritage sites. We also work with Alastair Sawday’s which produces superb guide books for our Pubs & Inns guide.
9) Which locations are currently on the system?
We have about 600 heritage sites and 900 pubs and inns on the system today (see the full list).
10) What if it doesn’t work?
We don’t expect you’ll have problems, but we’ll give you unlimited support to get ROADTOUR working via email, instant messaging and the telephone. We'll also provide you with a step-by-step user guide when you order.
11) How much memory space does it take up?
ROADTOUR takes up between 50mb and 400mb depending on which version you buy.
12) When I get my CD, download or SD card - how do I install it?
The install wizard will talk you through the process. The file is installed on the storage card (SD or Micro SD) of your Satnav or Mobile.
13) How often will locations pop up?
At 50mph, roughly about once every 15 minutes.
14) Won't the information on ROADTOUR go out of date?
Opening times and prices of entry will be updated once a year, as will reviews. You can buy an update which will cost from around £5.
15) Can I buy ROADTOUR in the shops?
We’re in discussions with a few large retail companies.
16) Can I uninstall ROADTOUR?
Yes, ROADTOUR can be uninstalled just the same as any other software on your sat nav or mobile device.
17) Is ROADTOUR compatible with a Mac?
Yes, Mac users can buy ROADTOUR on an SD card. To use the download or CD, a Windows PC is required.
