“Craigmillar Castle stands out from others of its kind because of the extent to which its core structure has survived. Almost all the walls along with the vaulted floors still stand, making it possible to gain access to the first floor of the building and roof level of the tower house. From here you get an amazing panoramic view of the surrounding countryside including Edinburgh and its castle. Even more impressive are the walls of the chapel and the original Dovecot – still providing a fine home for many 21st Century pigeons! Early records of the history of Craigmillar castle are vague but by the late 14th Century it was in the hands of the Prestons who fortified the existing tower house with a huge enclosure wall. This formed a large courtyard with circular towers in each corner. The castle remained in the hands of the Prestons for nearly 300 years until it was taken over by Sir John Gilmour in 1660. He carried out the rebuilding work needed to bring the castle up to date with 17th Century living. Craigmillar castle is also famous for the notorious conference in 1556 in which a group of men, loyal to Mary Queen of Scots entered into a pact to kill her husband, Lord Darnley. The Craigmillar Bond committed each of the men to equal desire and responsibility to “put off by one way or another” Mr Darnley. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey
