Tatton Park

| PLAY AUDIO |
“Tatton Park is a neoclassical masterpiece. As its name suggests the neoclassical style signaled an eighteenth century return to ancient Greek architecture. It was a reaction against more flamboyant and frilly styles, like Rococo, which had come before it. The house was designed in 1791 and its grand façade is supported by four huge columns. The interior is just as imposing - with fine art, porcelain and furniture adorning every room. Highlights are the enormous library, containing 8,000 books, and the spectacular drawing room. Princes and Princesses have been entertained in the lavish dining room. They would have been waited on by dozens of servants who had impressive quarters of their own. They even had a miniature railway for carrying coal. The Tatton Estate played an important role in the Second World War, acting as a decoy site to lure German bombers away from Manchester. It also became a base for the Parachute Training School. A number of soldiers - including those returning from the front - were billeted at Tatton. The 2000 acres of parkland must have provided a welcome retreat for the battle weary troops. Today the beauty of the park makes it the most visited attraction in Cheshire. There are 700 deer grazing its pastures, a working farm and 50 acres of gardens. These include a unusual Japanese garden, where different sections portray various mythical stories. It is said to be one of the finest in Europe. ”

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio
guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey

the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading
