“The North Yorkshire estate of Newby Hall was the setting for Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. It was built by Sir Edward Blackett in the 1690s under the guidance of Sir Christopher Wren – who designed St Paul’s Cathedral. It was later enlarged and adapted, first by John Carr and subsequently by Robert Adam, the most eminent architect of his day. The contents of the house were collected by William Weddell, who was a member of the Dilettanti society. He made the requisite Grand Tour in 1765, returning a year or so later with treasures that can now be seen in the Gobelin Tapestry Room, and in the renowned gallery of classical statuary. The House also boasts some of Chippendale’s finest furniture and a rather unusual collection of chamber pots! Outside, there are 25 acres of award winning gardens and there is even a Tropical Garden, no mean feat for North Yorkshire. The present garden design is largely due to the present owner’s grandfather, the late Major Edward Compton, who inherited Newby in 1921. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

Linda, New Jersey
