“Home to the Pennington family for 800 years, Munster Castle has a treasure trove of art and antiques. It also has some very unpleasant ghosts. One is the legendary Tom ‘The Fool’ (real name Tom Skelton). He was reputedly the last Court Jester in England, and a friend of William Shakespeare. At Sir Ferdinand Pennington’s request, Skelton murdered a carpenter who was having a love affair with his daughter, Helwise. The carpenter’s spectre still haunts Muncaster. “Holy King Harry” is also said to return in ghostly form. After Sir John Pennington gave shelter to Henry VI, in 1464, he left his drinking bowl behind. He said that as long as it remained whole and unbroken, the Penningtons would live and thrive in Munster Castle. The bowl is still intact, and is known as the “Luck of Muncaster”. That luck didn’t extend to house guests. Tom Fool’s idea of “a joke” was to direct people to Ravenglass via quicksand and bog marsh by the River Esk. Many vanished, never to be seen again. The ‘joke’ backfired. In 1600, Skelton fell in the marsh whilst drunk, and died there. Brave guests can book an all night vigil in Munster’s Tapestry Room to observe paranormal activities. However, those who prefer friendlier quarters can enjoy four star rooms in the stable block. Munster also has a huge collection of owls and wild herons. There are daily chances to meet the owls or join in with Heron Happy Hour. ”

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that I didn’t know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey
