Dalemain

“Dalemain is a treasure trove of a house near Ullswater, on the Northern fringes of the Lake District. Behind the impressive pink stone façade, you will discover the real surprise of Dalemain - its sheer variety. The Georgian walls conceal a wealth of Tudor and Medieval rooms and buildings. Little is known of the early history of the building until it was bought in 1680 by Sir Edward Hasell, the steward of Lady Anne Clifford. The Hasell family has lived here ever since. In a small room in the Pele tower are various pictures and objects associated with Lady Anne, including the last volume of her diary. There are lovely pieces of period furniture throughout, but the children's toys and doll houses provide a particularly charming touch. Dalemain has some grand public rooms, including a Chinese Room with hand-painted, 18th century oriental wallpaper. Other parts of the house come in a glorious confusion of winding passages, quaint stairways, and unexpected rooms of the sort that children love to play in. The Georgian front of the house looks over a terrace and lawn to farmland. Behind the house, which is part-Tudor, is a knot garden and a walled orchard. Herbaceous borders and other planting have been added in recent years. In the mediaeval hall of Dalemain, you will find a licensed tearoom and restaurant with a huge log fire in winter. ”

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester

“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio
guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey

“The heritage commentary is really informative and entertaining – it’s great to discover
the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading
