Cragside

| PLAY AUDIO |
“Cragside is still known as ‘the wonder of its age’. It is built high on a rocky crag above Debdon Burn and was the first house in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power. It was the country home of Lord Armstrong and is still full of his engineering innovations. A man ahead of his time, William George Armstrong advocated the use of renewable energy. He also designed guns – though he refused to accept any profits from their manufacture. Inside Cragside you can explore Armstrong’s technical feats of wizardry set amidst Morris interiors designed by Thomas Shaw. There is even a suite of Turkish Baths beneath the Library – perhaps to keep the books warm! Early visitors to Cragside included The Prince of Wales, the Shah of Persia, and the King of Siam. There are five lakes, and thousands of trees and shrubs, not to mention one of the largest rock gardens in Europe. In the Pinetum below the rock garden, England's tallest Douglas Fir soars above other woodland giants. Cragside also has a tricky rhododendron maze and an adventure playground. It is one of the red squirrel’s last strongholds. Cragside is now in the care of the National Trust. To make travel around the vast site easy, there is a hop-on, hop-off minibus to take visitors between the main facilities. ”

“Brilliant information, have used several of the pubs and visited many of the properties. Some that
I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”
Steve, UK
“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
“I've used the programme a few times now on my travels and it does add a good deal of value
to a journey so I'm very happy with my purchase.”
John, UK
“The Audio commentary on the Garmin was well narrated and definitely had the feel of the audio
guides you get when you are walking around the landmarks themselves”.
Linda, New Jersey
“Finding atmospheric pubs with good food is always a challenge when you don't know the area and
can be stressful when you're hungry and tired!!”
David, Essex

Nikki, Cambridgeshire'
“The heritage commentary is really informative and entertaining – it’s great to discover
the background to the brown tourist signs we normally whizz by on the motorway.”
Michael, Reading
