“Belsay is known as one of the most picturesque garden landscapes in the United Kingdom. Thirty acres of Grade I gardens link the medieval castle to a 19th century mansion. Together, they form the nucleus of an estate that has belonged to the Middleton family since the 13th century. The hall is based on Greek temple ruins seen by Sir Charles and Lady Monck during their extensive honeymoon between 1804 and 1806. Sir Charles designed the building with architect John Dobson. The hall is 100 feet (30 metres) square, with scrolled pillars on the ground floor, and plainer, rustic pillars on the first floor. It has been built entirely of stone - floor, stairs, and columns. The Middletons lived in the castle until 1817, and then in Belsay Hall until 1962. It is now in the custody of English Heritage, and open to the public. The gardens have thrived, unaltered, for 200 years. There are thousands of exotic plants, including Belsay’s famous rhododendrons, and the magical Quarry Garden. The ravines, pinnacles, and sheer rock faces here were inspired by the quarries of Sicily. Highlights include sunken croquet lawns in the Winter Garden, formal terraces with large, herbaceous borders full of colourful and unusual plants, and a wild flower meadow. A massive arcaded ha-ha (or sunken fence) divides the gardens from the park beyond. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
