Beeston Castle

“On a clear day, the medieval ruins of Beeston Castle offer stunning views from the Pennines to the mountains of Wales. The castle perches on a rocky sandstone crag 500 feet above the Cheshire plain. It was started in 1225 by Ranulf de Blundeville, 4th Earl of Chester, on his return from the Crusades. Ranulf designed the castle but died before work was completed. It contains one of the deepest castle wells in the country. Although ruined, enough of the walls and towers remain in place to show what it looked like in its prime. In 1237, King Henry III seized the castle. Both he and his son, King Edward I, used it as a base for their campaigns against the Welsh. The castle was destroyed at the end of the Civil War in 1646. However, according to legend, Beeston still hides King Richard II’s lost treasure. Excavations suggest that a Bronze Age settlement and Iron Age hill fort occupied the site long before the castle was erected. It is a Grade I listed building, and the nearby 19th century lodge is listed Grade II. Both are cared for by English Heritage. As well as the castle, there are acres of unspoilt woodland trails to explore, and plenty of wildlife to see. It is open to visitors, and has a small museum and visitor's centre. ”

I didn’t
know were so close to home. Keep up the good work.”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much
that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
