“The Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead has a direct, personal link to the famous children's author and creator of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck and Jeremy Fisher. The 17th Century building was the office of her husband; a local solicitor called William Heelis, and has remained largely unaltered to this day. The gallery shows many of Beatrix Potter's original drawings, watercolours, and story book illustrations, which are changed annually. There is also an exhibition telling the story of her life. Few people realise the influence that both Scotland and the Lake District had on Beatrix Potter. As a child, she lived a lonely life at home. Educated by a governess, Beatrix had little contact with other people. Instead, by way of comfort, she kept many animals as pets, studying them, and making drawings. Her other solace came from her long summer holidays in Perthshire with her family. Some of her favourite characters came to life here – including Mrs Tiggywinkle. Later the family started holidaying in the Lake District and Potter was smitten. She became much more than a gifted artist and author. She was determined to preserve her beloved Lake District, and was a great believer in the aims of the fledgling National Trust. In 1943, she bequeathed her numerous farms and land to the Trust. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
