“Next door to the ancient parish church of Lyddington in the small county of Rutland, stands Lyddington Bede House – part of a former palace of the Bishops of Lincoln. The Palace which was built in the 14th century was a grand medieval building that was home to many influential bishops. Initially, they spent short periods there – seeking the rest and restoration that were offered in the peaceful village surroundings. The more popular the residence became, the more it grew in importance, until it eventually became the business hub of the bishops of Lincoln. In 1547 the Palace was seized by the King and, in 1600, its remains were given to Sir William Cecil, chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth and the 1st Lord Burghley. The house that can be seen today is the remains of one of the Palace wings which was salvaged and turned into an almshouse. The residents were 12 poor ‘bedesmen’ and two women, it is believed, who were expected to do craftwork and attend church regularly to pray for their benefactor, in return for his generosity. The house blends in attractively with the rows of limestone cottages, making this a picture postcode location. Inside, the small windows, stone fireplaces and intricately carved wooden cornices have survived exceptionally well - as have the stained glass window remains, showing the coats of arms of various bishops. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London
