“The romantic gardens and lavish surroundings of Haddon Hall create the backdrop for an England in which Jane Eyre, Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett would feel right at home. The first house was built in the 11th century, although the current building dates back to the 14th and 15th Centuries. It originally belonged to William the Conqueror’s illegitimate son, Peveril. In 1563 Dorothy Vernon, a Protestant whose father owned Haddon Hall, eloped with the Earl of Rutland, a Catholic. The union is said to have taken place on the night of her sister’s wedding party, unbeknownst to her father! He frowned upon match but left the property to her upon his death. The door through which she escaped was named after her. Some also believe that her ghost haunts the house. When the title of duke was bestowed upon the family they moved to Belvoir Castle and the house was uninhabited, falling into disrepair over almost 200 years of neglect. The ninth Duke of Rutland returned to Haddon Hall and committed his life to restoring it to its former glory. The banqueting hall and dining room are fine examples of Tudor and Medieval design. Today, thanks to him, Haddon Hall is one of the best preserved examples of a medieval manor still standing. Outside in the well kept gardens gargoyles keep a watchful eye to make sure it stays that way. ”

“Thanks very much for your help. Gone out and got a 1Gb card and all is now loaded. One way of rating a company is the back up support and you score 10/10 .”
Graham, London

“The content is good and the level of detail about right, enough to pique your interest but not so much that you feel you're attending a lecture.”
Sam, Manchester
